We’re making it possible to eat local and to eat fresh.
Plates brings local communities together by connecting people with one another through a shared love of food.
A thriving neighborhood is a healthy and socially connected one.
There are 800 million people in our world that are hungry, and 40 million U.S. residents struggling with food insecurity.
We wanted to create a platform that empowers people at the local level to make a difference.
Food sharing within a community can directly unite and address the needs of their neighbor, or receive support if they themselves are in need.
Food waste is a deeply unfortunate reality today. Approximately $650 billion worth of food goes to waste each year, globally.
In the U.S., our contribution to that figure is $165 billion. Chipping away at those figures means consciously approaching food production and consumption.
The idea of sharing food within a local economy creates sustainability that will reduce food waste globally.
Plates encourages food prepared in smaller batches, moving shorter distances, with less packaging and little to no waste.
By encouraging and incentivizing users to source more locally, use reusable containers, travel a shorter distance to source food, and eliminate food waste, we aim to lessen the carbon footprint of food systems.
A healthy neighborhood thrives on access to education, healthcare, housing, transportation, and job security. We believe we can build an even healthier neighborhood through food. Food matters to everything that matters. Food is an everyday celebration. We are striving to encourage active participation in neighborhood dining through Plates.
